I decided that a pre-shoot warm up to the Eclipse would be a good idea so I could be ready for the real thing tomorrow. I picked a windy spot at one of my many favorite beaches and that turned out to be flaw number one. So I will be doing this from a wind sheltered spot next time to combat the unsharp looking photos. Next , I pulled out the 30D and locked it down to the new heavy duty tripod. It still wiggled in the wind. Damn. So I moved onto the settings and ended up in full manual so I could do the ridiculous if I wanted.
Then I held three Cokin filters shoved in a two filter holder up to the lens and snapped a couple of test shots. After a little goofing around I got it where I wanted. Then i tried to see the shot by looking up into the back with the sun blazing down at me. Finally took it off the tripod and crouched down out of the wind and looked at it with my back to the sun. Looked soft but I can fix that. I do need to find the other filters I need to make this shot work. I am determined to get some usable shots of the sun in various states of eclipse.
The gray neutral filters have some redish- purple tint to them at this extreme.
